Leviticus

It's Monday and we all know what that means... Time for an update of Cover to Cover hosted by Bev and the girls. I look forward to reading their insights every week.

Reading the book of Leviticus was actually quite difficult for me. There were so many laws and guidelines that had to be followed by the Israelites. So many specifics left absolutely no room for misinterpretation. The bottom line was that the LORD is perfect and Holy. Since God is holy, nothing can exist in his presence that is not perfect and pure.

It is hard for me to understand why some of the laws still exist today and some do not...
Leviticus 23:3
'There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the LORD.

All I know is that God set apart the people of Israel from the surrounding nations and with that came a great responsibility.

Leviticus 19:1-2
The LORD said to Moses, "Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: 'Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.

I probably shouldn't admit this, but I am glad to be done with this week's readings. I'm looking forward to next week. Until then, I am praying for all of you that something lingered in you that I didn't catch. I'm going over to Bev's to see what insight she shared!

Much Love,
Angie xoxo

p.s. I tend to be a perfectionist, so maybe that's why this seemed so overwhelming to me.

Maybe that's why these seem so hard to me too. The specifics required to follow the law to the letter were not easy, but very important. Thanks for your insights on perfection and our response to be holy. Great post on some tough stuff. Love you, Annette

Praise the Lord that our righteousness is in Jesus Christ and not in our ability to perfectly obey those laws!

I too am a perfectionist! I totally understand.

Miss Angie, I can't wait to meet you either! That will be such a fun day. Oh, the joy!

Have a fabulous week!

Oh...I relate to som much of what you wrote this week...this book was hard and I knew that of course going in but it still remained a challenge after our time in the other three books.

Sometimes books like Leviticus let us perfectionists know that we can't be perfect apart from Him...it is futile and exhausting yet it is hard to slip out of the mode...I speak from vast experience.

The Sabbath rest that God declares to His people speaks to me so much and I am glad you included it...my heart and soul long for that but I find it so difficult to make it happen...I want to explore that more this year.

Blessings to you,

Helen

I think you nailed it, Angie! We know we really need a savior when we understand holiness! You might want to read Hebrews sometime soon with Leviticus in mind. I think they go together! Love & blessings, Mary

I liked what you said about being a people that God set apart carries responsiblility. That is true of us today!

What is the best job I've ever had?
