Wow, I can't believe another week has gone by and it's already time for another Cover to Cover post about what lingers for me in this week's readings. I'm so excited that Nicole has decided to join us!
My favorite verses this week were easy to choose. Beth Moore's Daniel Study is still quite fresh in my mind. I want to be a Daniel in this Babylonian culture (of self-absorption and over-indulgence). We memorized these verses.
Daniel 2:20-23
"Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
wisdom and power are his.
He changes times and seasons;
he sets up kings and deposes them.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning.
He reveals deep and hidden things;
he knows what lies in darkness,
and light dwells with him.
I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers:
You have given me wisdom and power,
you have made known to me what we asked of you,
you have made known to us the dream of the king."
I want these next verses to more than linger...
Jeremiah 9:23-24
This is what the LORD says:
"Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom
or the strong man boast of his strength
or the rich man boast of his riches,
but let him who boasts boast about this:
that he understands and knows me,
that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth,
for in these I delight,"
declares the LORD.
I pray I don't boast about anything, but when I read this, I had to take an honest look at myself. Do I brag? Yes, I have to admit that at times I do. I so want to brag and tell you that I won the longest drive contest at the Hearts of Hope golf outing I participated in on Friday. I want to brag and tell you that I won a facial and massage. But I won't. Wait a minute, I just did! See what I mean? I SO need God in my life! I'd rather boast about one thing: God! He has been so kind to me! I do know Him, and I know He wouldn't want me boasting. He deserves ALL of the Glory for anything good that happens in my life! Dear Lord, please forgive me!
Have a great week!
He's all we need!
Love,
Angie xoxo
p.s. Please, whatever you do, don't congratulate me...thanks!

Wow-- I just started to .... but then I read the P.S. Remember the PMS? Please More Spirit!! More of HIM and less of me. i noticed the simulcast that when the words were on the screen for the songs, the letter "i" was always lower case and any reference to our LORD started with a capital letter (i.e. You, Lord, etc.). So little i, BIG GOD! Less of me, more of HIM! He's worth boasting about! Amen!!
O.k. I am soooo proud you won the longest drive and PUMPED you got a facial and massage! No apologies necessary! :) What a blessing!
You glorify Him so very beautifully, Angie. Boasting in where He has led you is His joy. Reminds me of the Terry MacAlmon song, "You Deserve the Glory" May we never tire of telling of His great and mighty works! He is so worthy. Love, Annette
Oh, what a reminder and good question to ask ourselves. Do I brag?! Thanks for that reminder.
Love ya-
Lindsee
You will not hear me say congratulations, that is for sure.
WAY TO GO ANG!!!!!
Great post. We so need to be Danielle's in this Babylonian world and be Paulette's when it comes to boasting, we need to boast about the Lord and what He has done.
Annette
I'm thinking you are a delight to Him!
love,
karen
hmmmm well Thank you Lord for letting good things happen to your sweet daughter Ang, and since she said I can not congratulate her can you tell her for me :)
Beautiful post!
You know we are doing a Beth Moore study "Living Free" and the last several days were on pride. God hates pride that is in a boastful way. However, we've had long discussions over these study chapters and we had to distinguish between pride that is boasting and pride that we take in doing a job well. We can take pride in keeping a clean house. We can take pride in doing our job well. We can take pride in doing our best in competitions. We can be thankful for winning a prize...a blessing from God. We can take pride in looking nice. For when we do a good job at work, keep a clean house, look nice, perform well, we are representing God in such a fashion and it brings Him glory. What would it say to God if we didn't take care of the things He provided for us. What if we didn't perform well at work or even sporting events.
In our discussions we also talked about how boasting is being prideful with the belief that we achieved it all on our own and without God's help. We can take pride in our accomplishments while acknowledging it is only by God's grace that we do well, work well, live well, take care of of our house, etc.
I KNOW that when you won that tournament you praised Jesus for it. I know you played with Him and for Him and you praised Him for your ability. I know you did. So you can be proud that He has skilled you to perform in such a way and a way that will and does bring Him glory.
We can take pride in what we do WHILE we are still humbled to know that we could only do it with Jesus and we'd fail everything without Him.
Okay, sermon over, class dismissed. :-) smiling.
I just needed to share what we had learned in that last couple months.
Love ya,
Paula
You know, a person can be so afraid of boasting that it stifles them sharing things about their life that really enhances a relationship. I did not know you golfed, for instance. I think sharing is all about motive, and we take the risk that someone will misunderstand if we share good stuff, but I want to be the kind of person who revels in everyone's else's joy, too! You can't have too much good news or joy in this world.
You are so right we need to be so careful and not brag on ourselves. He truly is the Only One worthy of our praise. Loved the scriptures you posted. We all need to remember that it really is God who puts people into power and He can take them out. We all need to pray before we vote and vote as He leads us to vote. that is off the subject but one that is close to my heart and He is the One who truly allows men to be put into power no matter what they think...May you have a sweet week walking with our Lord.
I learned something new about you today! That you golfed and won the longest drive contest! How cool is that? May His Word do more than linger may it transform!
Wow, Ang, GOLF!!!
It's 107 degrees here...do they have nighttime golfing?
Here you go again with humble honest heart...love it! I mean I LOVE it. Wonder what God is thinking about you right now? Remember Zeph 3:16-20 - He loves it and He's bringing you home to HIM every day. Thought the simulcast was like the best of Beth, best of God for us this moment.
I love to golf too! I think you commented on that one before on my blog somewhere! One of these days we will tee it up!
I do have to congratulate you on winning the long drive. That is wonderful... and I didn't look at it as bragging, but as sharing an exciting thing that happened for you! God was a part of that drive... He gave you the ability!
I love what Why 2nd Cup of Coffee? said "You know, a person can be so afraid of boasting that it stifles them sharing things about their life that really enhances a relationship... I think sharing is all about motive, and we take the risk that someone will misunderstand if we share good stuff, but I want to be the kind of person who revels in everyone's else's joy, too!
Amen to that!
How cool that God gave you the strength and ability to win that contest!! And you deserve a nice facial and massage, if God didn't want you to have them, you wouldn't have won. Enjoy your blessings Angie!!
Love,
Kelley
