God is so funny! I just have to tell you what happened. I wanted to post something about my problem with worrying about entertaining. Our friends invited us to go see a play with them tonight. Since they bought the tickets we thought we should buy dinner. After all, it's the least we can do. Plus I think they are on to my not wanting to entertain. They keep asking us when we are going to have them over?
So, tonight's the night. I bought the food (although I went to this great store and bought the sides), got a new candle to make the house smell "homey" (and pretend I am not stressed out). But the truth is... I am! I don't know how I lost my confidence in entertaining. Actually the more I think about it I've always had a problem with it. I think it's a gene because I remember my mother stressing out before entertaining. So... what to do about it? I know, be a Mary... not a Martha. What I've learned is that the more nervous I am the more times I really do mess up!
I want to be different this time. I want to be more relaxed. I think I'll put on some of my good praise and worship music and clean the house. These are friends we're having over. They are good friends. They would not like it if they knew I was going to stress out all day.
I usually like to add a song to my entry and I looked up a song from the play we are going to see and this is what I came up with. We are going to see "The Lion King" and guess what song I found? Yep, God is so funny!
Only with God can we have days with no worries!
Have a stress-free day in whatever you are doing!
Love,
Angie xoxo

Okay so I jump over to your blog and am waiting to hear Hakuna Matata...no worries...BUT INSTEAD...Nicole C. Mullen is belting our MY REDEMMER LIVES...
He runs to the worried, the needy...
same two Arms hold me
conquered death and
bring me victory...HE LIVES
MY REDEEMER LIVES...
so how did that happen?
a secret song for you on your post
Yes, you know Your Redeemer Lives
at your partay tonight...
you know that you know that you know that you know...HE LIVES
I talked with Him this morning...
and I know you did too...
He's there...
That is a real worry for me too! I clean for days...then when our guests (like you say usually our good friends who would not care about a little dust!) arrive, I see something I forgot....and all nite I'm hoping they won't notice. And I actually love having people here, it is just the before that I get crazy with. So I for one, think you must be perfectly normal!
I hope you all have a wonderful evening.
It will be a fantastic evening. We worry because we just do I guess. Everyone ends up enjoying every bit of it....regardless of what you eat. Remember, its the fellowship that is priceless.
Let us know how it goes.
Hakuna Matata~

Oh, I hope your night is just perfect! I'm sure it will be!
Hugs!

I'l bet that today you are saying, "Now why was I so worried about having them over?" I decided long ago that if I was having people over, I would keep things very simple. I'm not a cook, and not a great housecleaner. But, if these people care about me...they won't care about the house!
You are far too hard on yourself - that's why entertaining others is so difficult for you. I don't know you well at all, but I think I know you well enough to say that just being "YOU" is nice enough without having to have the "perfect" dinner or the "perfect" setting or the "perfect" this or that. Ang, you've got to start believing in just how wonderful your heart really is...I think that may be something that everyone else sees and appreciates but YOU!

I was kind of laughing while I was reading this because you described me and my mom. She stresses out big time when she has to entertain and I've found myself just this last year doing the same thing. But seeing it in my mom, I am aware and hopefully can do something to change.
I strive to relax when entertaining too. Get it? STRIVE to relax? I'm learning. If they can't accept me and my home in our comfort state - then maybe they shouldn't be gracing it...
